Master's Thesis: Use of Social Technology by Expatriate Adolescents in Shanghai, China
Shanghai, China has always been a global city. Now, with China's economic rise, it is becoming home to a growing number of expatriates and their families. However, the children of these expatriates who are growing up globally face a number of problems in moving and adapting to the new culture, including the long term problem of reducing their connections with family, friends, and even their home culture back in their passport countries. My thesis examines the use of social technologies such as RenRen/Facebook, QQ/IMing, Weibo/Twitter, Skype etc. by these adolescents to see if they provide any benefits in dealing with these connection problems.
